Our chance to shine

This week the year 5&6's will be doing Asttle (assessment tools for teaching and learning) writing and math's testing.  These results will be compared with the tests we all sat at the beginning of the year.  It is a great chance to show how much we have progressed, and the things we still need to continue to work on.

Today Room 14 sat our Asttle writing test.  This test gives the child a specific task and genre.  The children then have to decide what theme they will write about.

For example, today the task asked the children to think of a situation where a day, or activity, didn't go as planned.  They had to write in a "Narrative" genre.  We briefly discussed the types of common events where things don't quite go as planned eg: sailing, tramping, amusement parks, zoo visits...

The piece of writing is then handed in to Ms Berry and she marks it on 2 levels- surface features (spelling, grammar, punctuation) and deeper features (Content, Audience, language resources, structure). The information helps Ms Berry to form Room 14's class writing program and our own individual writing goals.
