Heroes in History....

Today we began to process of exploring 'Heroes" in New Zealand History- This is part of our Heroes Unit.   We decided that a great place to start was to look at the characters who adorned our money.  The children discussed why these people are so special and decided that it is because they have all changed the course of history, stood up for what they believed in and positively impacted our society. 

The first person we investigated was Kate Sheppard.

Firstly the children worked in pairs on a fact finding mission.  They used the ipad to gather interesting facts then collated them onto a note taking sheet.  We popped in to the library and Sue showed us where to find books on famous New Zealanders.  We learned that they are called 'Biographies or Auto Biographies". 
Next they worked cooperatively to present their information in the form of an information poster.

The children will complete a similar task for homework - this will be focusing on Gandhi.
