BRAIN WEEK!!

Today we began our journey inside our own heads.. Literally...  When we arrived to class Ms Berry greeted us with a smile and the scent of Vanilla candles... Then the song Insane in the Membrane ripped through the sound system...  It was then that we realized the week would not be a normal one...

Pascal Saker came in to talk to the whole school about how amazing our brains are... He is a NEURO SCIENTIST!

Next...The children looked at the four lobes of the brain, what they were responsible for and how they reacted to injury.  We created an Acronym to help us remember... FPOT... Frontal, Parietal, Occipital, Temporal...  We wore our brain caps...

Next we began to look at the most wonderful thing.... Our Neurons.....

After discussing each part of a neuron, the children were giver a box of plasticine and they had to work in pairs to make a neuron and all of its parts.  We stuck them to the white board and they look like beautiful art works!

FACT:  The word DENDROID means " branching in a tree like way".  This is why the receptacles
 and transmitters are called 'Dendrites'.

Today we began by recapping.... the children had to model and explain a neuron to a pair from another class.

Because we think Neurons are so amazingly beautiful we are going to immortalise them in a triptych artwork.

While we worked Mozart floated through the air and the warm scent of vanilla awakened our senses...
