Understanding the changes of state

On the 27th of April we learnt about the changes of state by doing a simple but effective experiment. Using a Bunsen burner, an ice-cube and a Pyrex bowl, we watched the three changes of state take place.
Ms. Berry placed the ice-cube in the bowl and turned the burner on. Then, she put the bowl on top of the burner and that was when the first change of state began. The molecules in the ice heated up and began going faster, causing the ice to turn from solid to liquid. When the water got warmer aswell, it became a gas and started rising into the air. Ms. Berry caught the vapour on a plastic sheet where it became little drops of water again.
I think this was really interesting to watch and a very effective way to show how the changes of state occur.
