Welcome back for 2010. Today the room was filled with active listeners, motivated learners and enthusiastic communicators! What a way to start the year.
After chatting as a class about what the year holds in store for us we headed over to the main school wher the senior Kapa Haka group lead a Powhiri, welcoming our 2 new teachers ( Mr Ray and Miss Nike) and our new BOT Chairperson ( Time Wake). It was great to talk to the class about why we have welcoming ceremonies and how important it is to acknowledge new people into our school community.
The children are now aware of the meaning of the term 'Inquiry Learning'. We talked about the different ways of 'inquiring' and the importance of questioning the world around us. We used the term 'thrill of the unknown' as a way of reminding ourselves that the journey we take when learning is important, not just the destination. The children were keen to share their ideas about 'Standing Strong' (our Term 1 intergrated learning focus) and quickly adapted to the faster pace of the senior school - with homework already flying out the door and into your homes!! ( due next Wednesday).
My main focus of today was to get the children settled into the expectations and routines of rm22, and to get them to start planning out their 2010 journey towards success. I look foward to the rest of the term.
