An excercise in Human Rights

Learning Intention: Examine how the world supports or violates the Declaration of Human Rights.

Today we continued to explore the Declaration of human rights. After exploring the 30 articles we asked:

1:Which articles are most relevant to a New Zealand way of life?
2:How does New ZEaland protect its peoples Human Rights?
3:Whoses responsibility is it to protect every humans rights?
4: why are peoples rights still being violated?

We discussed as a class how important it is for countries governments to advocate and recognize it's people right to have rights, and thought about the situation in Libya at the moment- linking the current political environment to various human rights articles.

Next we broke into pairs and armed with a list of 'current global situations' and the 30 articles had to locate countries where the violations are happening and relate them to the Declaration. Tomorrow we will try to find patterns between where most of the violations are happening and where they are geographically. We will also try to find links between political regimes and violations of human rights.

So much high powered thinking! We are going to become advocates for every persons Human Rights.
