Self Esteem is....
"Confidence in ones own abilities or self-worth, self-respect"
Today we looked at self esteem, defining and relating it to teens. We Discussed in pairs all of the negative and positives influences in the world that have direct effects on how we feel about ourselves. After we had discussed influences each pair had to create three 'fat' questions relating to self esteem. We then used the POD to gather research and answers to our questions. We will use this information to create mini-speech/presentations using keynote or power-point together in our co-operative groups. This is really good support and practice for our individual speeches which are due next week.
Some of the questions we came up with were:
- What can we do to improve our sense of self-worth?
- What are the main negative influences on teens self-esteem?
- Are their any agencies that can help you if you have developed low-self worth?
- What are the biggest causes of low self-esteem?
- how does advertising effect self-esteem?
- How can you get through being put down?
- How to avoid being peer-pressured.
- how do you correctly give and receive compliments... and why do we find it so hard to accept being complimented?
- how do you build up your self-esteem?
- Is your self worth your own responsibility?
