New Zealand's geographical features

This week we are learning about all of the different cities, towns and important mountains of New Zealand. Today we began by watching an amazing animation about Maui and his brothers. The animation was the story of the brothers fishing up the North Island, and then how his brothers wake became the southern alps. Afterwards the children worked in pairs to research the names and locations of the mountains In NZ. Once they had an idea about where each mountain was on the map they began creating their own 3d map of NZ.   By the end of the week we want all of the children to be able to locate these features and towns on a blank map. Plus they will have a fantastic NZ artwork to hang on their walls!  This is all part of our heritage study.
