"In every bit of honest writing there is a base theme. 'Try to understand men'. If you do you will be kind to one another. Knowing a man well never leads towards hate and nearly always leads towards love. Writing promotes social change, punishes injustices, celebrates heroism, but always a theme - Try to understand each other".
John Steinbeck 1938 an entry from his personal journal.
Today we talked about the idea of every one having a dream, and how they are not just reserved for the good but also the bad characters in 'Of mice and men'. The kids used what they have learned about each character in the story and explored what they felt was their dream (this is called inferring).
