Enjoying many different ways of learning...

Every child learns differently.  Some children learn best by engaging in 'hands on' tasks.  Some children enjoy reading books, or researching topics on the internet.  Many children enjoy building models or creating diagrams to show their learning.  Others enjoy presenting their learning in the form of a writing a fictional story or a more formal report. Some enjoy working together with a peer and others find it easier to complete a task independently.

Over the past few weeks the children have been engaging in a variety of learning tasks which cater for a wide range of learning styles.

Here are some pictures of a few of the tasks...  Each task is designed to promote information processing, critical thinking, reading comprehension and literacy skills.

Creating a miniature model of King Richard  the 3rd.  This promoted decoding instructions, understanding diagrams, comprehension and logical thinking skills.

Spelling - children work independently on complex spelling lists and spelling activities, working with dictionaries, defining, understanding spelling patterns, using words in various contexts and decoding instructions.

Co-operative learning, comprehending ideas and voicing your opinion - here the children are debating several statements about 'what makes a hero'.  This kind of activity allows children to present their understanding and opinions orally, while developing confidence and listening skills.
