PUBERTY - this week we started discussing puberty and the issues young people face physically and emotionally because of the huge changes they are going through.
We begin each morning with 'Puberty message of the day' whcih leads the children into discussions and question time.
Today we created brochures designed to inform young people abut the issues surrounding going through puberty and the changes they can expect. It was hugely enjoyable and the children were keen to learn and discuss all the changes that they are going through/going to go through. I was impressed with the enquisitiveness and focus the children had during these learning times.
Todays messages
"Every body goes through puberty. Nobody goes through the changes at exactly the same time as any one else".
"at puberty the pituitary gland triggers the release og hormones that cause the ovaries and testes ( called gonads) to produce testosterone and estrogen. These hormones trigger the body to change from childhood into adulthood. As a result of this change many things start to change in the body".
