Let Me Explain.....

For literacy this week we are learning how to structure and present a quality explanation.  We have focused on creating specific criteria which outlines how each section of the explanation should be set out.  We are also working on using accurate diagrams which support the text and help inform the reader.

Today we completed our first explanation- 'How to use a Tape Dispenser'.  We really tried to use interesting, technical language to give our writing more depth.  For example instead of using the word sticky, we used the word adhesive. which made our writing much more scientific. 

We chose this simple topic to begin with so that the children would understand the "PURPOSE" of an explanation- which is to inform the reader of a process.

Next up we will will be explaining how coal and oil are made....
